Workshop on Menstrual Hygiene
Breaking the taboo
We march towards
A new era of freedom
An era of expression
An era of inclusion
Choosing logic over ignorance.
And "the rainbow is born again."
With an aim to increase awareness among the
young girls about menstrual hygiene, a session was conducted in Prudence
School, Ashok Vihar on Tuesday, 3rd September 2019 with approximately 800 girls
from Grades 5-10 by Unicharm India, an
extended arm of the Japanese based Unicharm Corporation. This was an initiative
under the campaign- "Managing Menstruation - My Pride" for adolescent
girls. The campaign aims to prepare young girls (pre menarche and post
menarche) to improve their knowledge and prepare them for healthy and
productive childhood.
The session entailed a comprehensive
understanding on the what, why and how of menstruation comprising its meaning,
developing a biological understanding, discussion on social taboos and most
importantly, awareness of hygiene practices to be maintained during menstrual
cycle. This endeavour by the school helped the girls to develop a better
awareness of themselves and remove their inhibitions. Free samples were also
distributed after the workshop.
Considering the fact that girl's education
is like sowing the seed to raise the green plant which bears the fruits of
tomorrow, it is important to empower girls to become confident women who will
break the glass ceiling and reach great heights.
